Kate Pennington, Speech Pathologist

Kate’s first and primary goal when meeting a new client is to help the child feel safe and loved.  Once this connection is made, the child’s mind opens up, bringing forth the opportunity for communication to blossom.  Kate likes to reach children through language play and by setting up natural settings so that functional communication can develop.  Working closely with parents and other therapists or teachers, she strives to help patients generalize new concepts and skills so that growth and learning can take place across all environments.

“It is rare to find a profession where you’re excited to get up and go to work each day!  At TDS, we work as a team, with the parents, and take a whole-child approach toward progress and healing.  I’m so grateful for the trust parents have placed in me – I try to never take for granted how blessed I am to work with these precious children.”

Kate graduated from Hartsville High School in 1999 and went on to receive a BA from Clemson University and a Master of Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina.  After receiving her Master’s, she earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and became licensed through both ASHA and the Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology through the state of South Carolina. Kate has clinical experience working in schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities.  Before joining our team in 2011, she spent 5 years working full-time for the Darlington County School District.
